We start the day with a short orientation tour of Reykjavik. This fascinating excursion takes in all the city’s major attractions, including: the old town centre, the Parliament, the Domkirkjan church, the harbour, the National Museum, Laugadalur swimming pool, the Ásmundur Sveinsson Sculpturemuseum, the Pearl, Höfði house (site of the 1986 summit) and the city’s mainlandmark, Hallgrímskirkja Church. Along the way, you’ll also encounter Árbæjarsafn outdoor museum, where preserved buildings offer a fascinating glimpse into Reykjavík‘s past. On the way out of the city we drive past the city’s Salmon River is a reminder of the capital’s connection to the surrounding natureThe Blue Lagoon is on the Reykjanes Peninsula 45 minute drive from Reykjavík, not too far from the Keflavík Airport. It is a unique experience; a lagoon with pleasantly warm mineral-rich geothermal water in a middle of a black lava field. The high natural levels of silica and minerals give the Lagoon its rich blue color. The facilities include modern changing rooms and showers, an indoor geothermal pool, sauna, steam bath, masseuses, restaurants and other services. A visit to the Blue Lagoon is invigorating whether one bathes there surrounded by snow in the middle of the winter or in the long summer daylight.

The Golden Circle is probably the most popular area out of Reykjavík and for several good reasons. This is a full-day tour of the SW of Iceland and includes three of the best known attractions Iceland has to offer: Gullfoss (The Golden Waterfall), one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe with thousands of tons of icy water thundering majestically into a deep canyon; The Geysir Area, with numerous hot springs, fumaroles and geysers, including the 30 meter spouting world known Strokkur; Þingvellir, a remarkable geological site and a historic site as well. Þingvellir is the site of the world's oldest democratic parliament founded in 930 and the beautiful canyon running through the park is actually the dividing fault line between two of the earth’s tectonic plates.
For lunch we stop at the family run Friðheimar greenhouse cultivation centre, where we learn about the magic behind growing delicious, pesticide-free tomatoes and cucumbers with the aid of the geothermal heat that Iceland has in abundance. An unbelievable fact that few people know is that Iceland is the only country in the world where tomatoes are grown the whole year around. You will enjoy a snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier. It’s a highly recommended and unforgettable glacier experience.

We drive along the fertile farmland. The South Shore is one of the most popular region of Iceland for a number of reasons: The waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss tumbling over high rock escarpments. The stone arch Dyrhólaey with its sheer cliffs; The picturesque setting of Vík village; A row of glaciers towering over the scenery and the Reynisdrangar rock pillars (some say they are petrified trolls) decorating the black beach of Reynihverfi. We will make a stop on the way to get a better look at the glacier. Glacier walk is a great glacier adventure where you can try for yourself how it feels to walk on glacier ice. You will walk on Sólheimajökull glacier (a part of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap) on the south coast of Iceland Nearby Skógar and Vík. You will walk through the varied landscape on the way, formed by the glacier for the past thousands of years. There you will see how fast the glacier has been melting for the past 15 years. Sólheimajökull is the southernmost glacier in Iceland, the ice is up to about 200 meters thick and the total size with the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull about 600 km2. Underneath the main ice cap is the caldera of the volcano Katla, one of Iceland biggest volcano.

We drive across Eldhraun lava field and Myrdalssandur black sand desert and onwards to Fjadrargljufur canyon. It’s a magnificent and massive canyon, about 100 meters deep and about two kilometres long. The canyon has sheer walls, and is somewhat serpentine and narrow. From there we drive to Kirkjubæjarklaustur which is a former Catholic Convent site from the 12th century. We drive to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon that is the largest and best known glacial lake in Iceland. The lake is approx. 200 meters deep and now probably the second deepest lake in Iceland. The lake is situated at the south end of Vatnajökull glacier. Jokulsarlon appeared first only in 1934-35 and it grew from 7.9 km2 to 18 km2 in 1975, due to heavy melting of the glacier. Here you can enjoy a boat tour on the lagoon, floating very close to these huge ice masses. After the enjoyable day we head back to the capital Reykjavik. We drive now to Skaftafell national park, one of Iceland’s most outstanding points of natural beauty, dominated by Vatnajökull Glacier, Europe’s largest ice cap. We enjoy the contrast of lush vegetation and barren slopes and the magnificent views one gets of the peaks in Skaftafell. We enjoy a hike to Svartifoss waterfall. After a memorable day we had back to our accommodation in Vik
